The One Secret Thing Wedding Photographers Do When They Need a “Pick Me Up”

Lately, we’ve been feeling the heat. No, it’s not because we just had a few weeks of 90+ degree weather here in Pennsylvania. It’s because we are in the middle of our busy wedding season. All of our time is consumed by our work – with weddings on the weekends, engagement shoots fit in when we can, and the time in between spent editing photos, putting together client galleries, responding to emails, setting up appointments, and trying to find a little sliver of time for ourselves in between.

With all of this going on, it’s nice to feel appreciated every once in a while. It’s only human…

While things like hearing positive feedback from our clients to seeing reviews roll in after we’ve delivered images to the people we work for are fantastic – they aren’t always consistent. Or, at least, these things take some time as we may not complete a gallery until a month (or longer) after we have a shoot.

As established professional photographers, we’ve discovered one of the simplest tricks to coax out some positive feedback when we need that extra mid-week pick me up. Here is how:

Post a photo of a couple who is notorious for engaging on social media.

engagement-wedding-photography-tipOver the years, we’ve worked with a lot of couples. There are those who like to keep to themselves online – and we totally get that. But there are those who consistently engage with our content, especially when we post photos of them.

It turns out, this is the simplest way to produce natural engagement on social media.

When we review our Instagram and Facebook statistics, there is always a big bump on posts featuring these couples. The reasons for this are easy to understand:

  • The couple “likes” and comments – bringing positive energy and engagement
  • Other people see this interaction and jump on the bandwagon – friends and family in particular
  • Images start to be shared, and the photo spreads like wildfire

See all of this happen in action provides a simple boost to our week.

Who doesn’t like it when people express how much they love your work, value you as a photographer, and appreciate all you do?

The Benefits of a Little Positivity

Despite our secret tip being pretty selfish on our end, this small “pick me up” has some serious benefits.

It helps us to get back to work, feel more energized, and produce better results.

After staring at a selection of 1,000 wedding photos that need to be culled back and edited, it can seem overwhelming. It’s pretty exhausting at times to work through. The jolt of energy helps us get back on the straight-and-narrow, and get things done!

There We Have It!

Compared to most posts on this website, this is a little short.

We wanted to keep it simple and to the point to provide you with a quick nugget of information you can apply to help get that little mid-week boost of your own.
